Dr. Mike Scarber, DPT, GTC, CFST-2, TRS-S

Dr. Mike Scarber has been a physical therapist for over 14 years, with the last 11 years here in Ventura County, CA. Mike grew up in Chelmsford, MA and was a competitive, award winning swimmer before becoming a collegiate athlete at the University of Tampa. Mike is also a dedicated ultra trail runner, finishing on the podium in the 100 mile, 100k and the 50k distances, and is a Boston Marathon qualifier. Mike enjoys spending time with his family, surfing, hiking, gravel biking, and being an active committee member for Runners For Public Lands.

Mike graduated from The University of Tampa in Tampa, FL with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and enjoyed his time as a collegiate swimmer. He then went to University of St. Augustine in FL and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2009 with his doctorate in physical therapy. His concentration was manual therapy, completing all of the coursework for the manual therapy tract and authoring a case study on low back pain and aquatic therapy.

Mike has been a respected leader in the physical therapy community in Ventura as rehab manager for a large healthcare company, where he has been loved by his patients and his staff.  He specialized in vestibular disorders, balance, and post-operative care. He has spent the last couple of years completing more fascia and sports specific continuing education, including becoming Graston Certified, Fascial Stretch Therapy Level-2 certified, and is also a TRS (The Ready State) Movement and Mobility Specialist.

After watching his wife, Leigh, pursue her passion in the fascia specific world of wellness and physical therapy, it was easy to see how special and unique this type of treatment is. Mike has grown to love the treatments so much as a patient, that he always schedules an appointment before and after races due to increased performance and decreased recovery times.  Further, the overall feeling of calm, lightness and freedom of movement as a result of the treatments is a gift that Mike is inspired to share with more people in our community. Mike brings years of experience, leadership and passion to his treatments and understands what it means to be a competitive athlete. Mike has a heart of gold, is always smiling and laughing, and treats everyone as if they were family. Welcome to the Ascent Wellness family Mike!

Combine a consummate professional physical therapist, somebody really tuned in for the sake of your wellbeing, a proven community leader, and a fun-loving semi-pro athlete, and you’ve got Mike Scarber. See him and move better in the world.
